The curriculum is the most important aspect and
cannot be separated from education. In line with the time Indonesia has
experienced many curriculum changes, the changes that occur aim to improve the
Indonesian education system but in practice, there are still many shortcomings
that must be resolved. Then how long will this country continue to experience
dynamics like this, because every change that occurs gives a great impact both
for Educators, Educators, and Learners? Indonesia, which is currently led again
by the president, Ir. H. Joko Widodo has had a new Minister of Education and
Culture which was unexpected, Mr. Nadiem Makarim, CEO of one of the unicorns in
Southeast Asia, founder of the Go-Jek company, which has opened millions of
jobs in Indonesia, coming from digital businesses now he worked hard to become
a bureaucrat and was given a mandate that was so heavy to solve the problems of
education in this country.Without thinking, he immediately accepted the mandate
and moved to resolve all existing educational problems, the first thing he did
was to gather 100 experts who were experts in education in Indonesia to look at
their views and analyze more deeply the existing educational problems, and
after knowing all the problems of education in Indonesia he sparked a number of
policies including "Merdeka Belajar" according to Nadiem, the things
we do, standardize, and have a negative impact. There is no one standard or one
way to assess the potential of a school. Indonesia is a multicultural country
where there is a wide variety of cultures and languages in it. The diversity
meant by Nadiem Makarim belongs to the potential of different schools. It could
be, there are in areas with poor mathematical quality, but precisely the art
can be thumbs up. Even the opposite.
Equalization makes many schools increasingly behind.
Schools are increasingly left behind because teachers are charged with
administrative matters which are increasingly complicated. He wants to
introduce the concept of the policy "Merdeka Belajar" in which
schools are from supervising to serving. Teacher independence is transformed
into student independence in determining the direction and level that suits
them. All of this is not without obstacles, in its implementation Nadiem also
said that this policy cannot be implemented shortly. Because many things are
very crucial that must be deepened again. According to the head of IGI
(Indonesian Teachers Association), many obstacles must be faced by the Minister
of Education and Culture to realize his ideals, including the Bureaucratic
Barriers, Communication Patterns, and Education Facilities. But Nadiem Makarim
still believes that freedom of learning will be realized.
From the above issues regarding the new policy that
will be implemented by the Minister of Education and Culture. The policy is
very strongly related to Howard Gardner's Learning Theory which has a
"Multiple Intelligence" theory. Gardner (2003) suggests compound
intelligence is based on the fact that people have a different understandings of
power and contrasting understanding styles. Bringing alternative visions based
on the handling of radically different thoughts, and visions producing views
about very different schools, schools that are centered on individuals, which
accept multi-dimensional views of intelligence. Seven intelligence/intelligence
which is then called multi-intelligence. The seven types of intelligence,
namely: (1) verbal-linguistic intelligence; (2) logical-mathematical
intelligence; (3) visual-spatial intelligence; (4) rhythmic-musical
intelligence; (5) physical-kinesthetic intelligence; (6) interpersonal
intelligence; (7) intrapersonal intelligence; Gardner (Andi Ichsan Mahardika,
2011). From the explanation above we can understand that Gardner has the view
that each individual has different intelligence and cannot be forced on one
another. Along with the policy of Nadiem Makarim that education in Indonesia
cannot be equalized because each region has its potential. That way the
education curriculum in Indonesia can apply to all existing regions.
In my view, this is the right policy and should be
resolved immediately so that it can be realized quickly. As we know, Indonesia
is the largest archipelago country, with hundreds of tribes, languages , and
cultures in it. The government cannot immediately equate all aspects in one
assessment because each region has its advantages. By not generalizing this
assessment, it is expected that every school in the regions of Indonesia can
improve the quality of their education following the capacity and excellence of
each region. In
the future, if this plan can be realized, each school in Indonesia will no
longer need to be mapped as to which schools are superior and which are
ordinary schools. Because basically education is to educate the life of the
nation and each school has the same obligations and rights in the eyes of the
government.
